What the job entails
As a Field Application Engineer, you will integrate industrial control equipment into customer projects and provide technical support throughout implementation. Working from the Tokyo office, you will collaborate with customer engineers and internal technical departments to understand requirements, select appropriate control components and ensure effective system performance.
Your responsibilities will include supporting control-panel and PLC-related design, selecting components such as motors, noise filters and amplifiers, and coordinating technical matters with colleagues in Japan and Europe. You will participate in regular meetings with international headquarters engineering teams and visit customers across Japan when required.
This role offers significant autonomy and decision-making responsibility. It is well suited to an engineer who enjoys combining hands-on technical expertise with customer communication, project coordination and problem-solving in an international industrial automation environment.
Key requirements
An engineering background, supported by education at technical college, university or postgraduate level.
Practical experience in control-panel design or PLC control-panel design.
Experience selecting control components, such as motors, noise filters and amplifiers.
Native-level Japanese and professional working proficiency in English; a TOEIC score of around 700 is a useful guideline.
A valid Japanese ordinary driving licence and the ability to drive for business travel and customer visits.
Strong communication skills when coordinating with customer engineers and internal technical teams.
The ability to work independently, manage priorities and make sound technical decisions.
Experience programming in an object-oriented language such as Java, C++, Objective-C or a comparable language would be advantageous.
Experience with PLC programming or designing embedded and control software for factory-automation equipment would be beneficial.
Knowledge of IEC 61131-compliant software, embedded Linux or mechatronic control design would also be advantageous.
