Overview
A global luxury retail brand is seeking an HR Generalist to support local business operations in Japan. This role acts as a key HR partner, overseeing recruitment, employee relations, compensation coordination, and HR operations while aligning with regional HR strategies across APAC.
Position Summary
The HR Generalist is responsible for end-to-end HR coordination, including talent acquisition, vendor management, compensation processes, and employee relations. The role also ensures compliance with local labor regulations and supports HR budget management and regional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
Lead recruitment coordination for retail and office roles in the local market
Partner with business leaders to define hiring needs and prioritize roles
Manage recruitment vendors and oversee hiring processes (screening, scheduling, background checks)
Set and monitor vendor KPIs (e.g., time-to-hire, quality-of-hire)
Compensation & Payroll Coordination
Coordinate with external vendors for payroll and bonus processing
Ensure compliance with local labor laws and company policies for salary, tax, and benefits
HR Budget Management
Develop and manage annual HR budgets
Track spending and report variances to regional HR leadership
Propose cost optimization initiatives where needed
Employee Relations (ER)
Manage onboarding, contract renewals, and offboarding processes
Drive employee engagement initiatives
Handle employee inquiries, disputes, and ER cases in line with regulations
Escalate complex issues to regional HR leadership when necessary
Vendor Management
Evaluate vendor performance and conduct annual reviews
Lead contract negotiations and vendor optimization initiatives
Compliance & HR Operations
Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulatory requirements
Update HR policies and processes in response to legal changes
Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders
Projects & Regional Collaboration
Support ad-hoc HR projects in collaboration with the APAC HR team
Ensure smooth implementation of regional HR initiatives locally
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
5+ years of HR experience across recruitment, compensation, and employee relations
Strong knowledge of local labor laws and HR compliance
Fluent English communication skills (written and spoken)
Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred
Experience in luxury retail or fashion industry
