What the job entails
As a Pre-Sales Technical Consultant, you will provide technical expertise to the sales organization, customers, and local partners across Japan’s financial services and payment-related markets. Based onsite in Kawasaki, you will serve as the primary technical contact for pre-sales, implementation, and post-sales activities.
You will manage projects from initial requirements gathering and solution conceptualization through project kickoff, testing, and customer sign-off. Your responsibilities will include supporting card and personalization requirements, white-plastic certification, profile setup, UAT, order management, and partner coordination. You will also present products and services to customers, support customer relationships, and lead the resolution of technically complex complaints.
Working closely with the country leadership, regional and global product teams, support functions, and personalization partners, you will ensure projects meet customer expectations, security policies, and applicable payment-scheme requirements.
Key requirements
At least seven years of experience in a comparable technical consulting, solutions, or customer-facing role.
Four or more years of experience in the EMV or smart card industry is preferred.
Strong knowledge of smart cards, EMV, GlobalPlatform, Java Card, MIFARE, NFC, and banking or payment-scheme processes.
Experience managing technical projects from requirements gathering through implementation, testing, and final acceptance.
Understanding of solution selling and the ability to translate customer needs into practical technical solutions.
Experience supporting financial institutions, payment organizations, transportation companies, or related partners.
Ability to coordinate effectively with sales teams, customers, local partners, and regional or global technical and product teams.
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to lead investigations and resolve technically complex customer issues.
Background in information technology or a closely related technical discipline.
Fluent Japanese is required, along with professional proficiency in English.
Strong communication, organization, customer service, and stakeholder-management skills.
