About the Project
Cornerstone is seeking an experienced MDM Operations Lead to join a client-facing project for a leading Japanese consumer products and beverage organisation.
The client is undertaking a significant data governance and master data transformation programme to improve the quality, consistency and usability of customer, account, product and reference data across its business operations. This initiative is a key part of the organisation's broader digital transformation strategy and will support future analytics, CRM and enterprise system capabilities.
You will be employed by Cornerstone on a fixed-term contract and assigned to a project delivered by Cornerstone for the client. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with business stakeholders, data professionals and technology teams in a collaborative and multicultural environment.
The role is based in Shibuya, Tokyo, with a hybrid working arrangement.
What the Job Entails
As the MDM Operations Lead, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, governance and continuous improvement of enterprise master data, with a primary focus on customer, account and reference data.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing master data maintenance activities and approval processes.
Overseeing hierarchy management, stewardship activities and governance compliance.
Supporting data quality monitoring, issue investigation and remediation activities.
Coordinating with Data Owners, Data Stewards, business users and technology teams to resolve data-related issues.
Maintaining business rules, governance documentation and operational procedures.
Ensuring data changes are processed accurately and in accordance with governance standards.
Facilitating governance reviews and stakeholder discussions.
Supporting onboarding of new data domains and operational processes.
Assisting with data migration, system implementation and transformation initiatives.
Driving continuous improvement across MDM operations, data quality and stewardship processes.

Key Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
At least 5 years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Data Quality, Business Operations or a related field.
Experience managing customer, account, product, vendor or reference master data processes.
Practical experience operating governance frameworks, stewardship programmes or master data operating models.
Strong capability in data quality monitoring, issue investigation, root cause analysis and remediation coordination.
Experience documenting business rules, data standards, governance procedures and operational processes.
Experience supporting enterprise system implementations, data migrations or master data transformation initiatives.
Strong understanding of hierarchy management, data lifecycles, approval workflows and change control practices.
Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and investigation.
Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation and communication skills.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
Business-level Japanese communication skills, both written and spoken.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with MDM platforms such as Stibo Systems or similar solutions.
Experience using Power BI or other reporting and analytics tools.
Business-level English proficiency.
Experience working in consulting, agency or client-services environments.
Experience supporting enterprise-scale data governance programmes.
