Deputy Store Manager
Overview
  • We are seeking a Deputy Store Manager to support overall store operations, team leadership, and commercial performance within a fast-paced retail environment

  • This role acts as a key point of contact for store staff, ensuring alignment across sales, operations, customer experience, and team development

Compensation & Benefits
  • Estimated first-year annual salary: approximately JPY 5.3M+ (based on 14 monthly payments and performance-based incentives)

Probation

Location & Working Hours
  • Store locations across major metropolitan areas in Japan

  • Shift-based working hours within a broad daily operating window

  • Standard working hours: 8 hours per day with scheduled breaks

Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial & Product Management
  • Monitor sales targets across product categories and drive team performance to achieve goals

  • Ensure effective product display, merchandising standards, and execution of commercial strategies

  • Maintain high visual and brand presentation standards across all store areas

  • Propose improvements to store layout, fixtures, and customer flow to enhance performance

2. Team Leadership & People Management
  • Support hiring decisions for key store roles and contribute to talent development

  • Oversee staff performance, scheduling, and productivity in line with business needs

  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment focused on customer experience and team engagement

  • Act as a communication bridge for company values including diversity, sustainability, and service excellence

  • Partner with HR on employee engagement and development initiatives

3. Operations & Process Optimization
  • Ensure smooth daily store operations including opening and closing procedures

  • Optimize store and stockroom processes to improve efficiency and resource utilization

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

  • Collaborate with relevant departments to maintain store facilities and environment standards

  • Support execution of action plans to improve sales, productivity, and team performance

4. Planning & Performance Management
  • Analyze KPIs and sales data to identify improvement opportunities

  • Contribute to sales forecasting and workforce planning

  • Participate in regular operational meetings and communicate business objectives to the team

  • Support implementation of new initiatives and operational improvements

Ideal Profile
Experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of management experience in retail, preferably within fashion or lifestyle sectors

  • Strong understanding of merchandising, market trends, and store operations

  • Experience using standard business tools such as MS Office

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities

  • Customer-focused with a commercial and results-driven mindset

Language Requirements
  • Native or business-level Japanese proficiency

  • Business-level English communication skills

Reporting Line
  • Reports directly to Store Manager / Store Director

  • Works closely with cross-functional in-store teams (operations, product, customer experience, HR where applicable)

  • Collaborates with regional support functions across multiple departments
