What the job entails
The Accountant will support the accurate and timely management of the company’s accounting operations in Japan. This role will be responsible for maintaining financial records, processing accounting transactions, supporting month-end and year-end closing activities, and preparing financial information for internal stakeholders and external partners.
Key responsibilities will include accounts payable and receivable, bank and account reconciliations, expense management, journal entries, and assisting with financial reporting. The Accountant will also help ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and internal controls, while supporting audits and responding to accounting-related inquiries.
Success in this role requires a detail-oriented and dependable professional who can manage competing priorities, work collaboratively across departments, and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes. Key requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional experience in accounting, preferably within an international, retail, fashion, or consumer-focused organization.
Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial closing processes.
Ability to prepare accurate accounting entries, maintain organized financial records, and support internal and external audits.
Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or enterprise resource planning systems.
Understanding of applicable Japanese accounting, tax, and statutory requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across functions and, ideally, international markets.
A proactive, organized, and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Professional integrity and the ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately.
Fluency in Japanese and working proficiency in English are preferred for collaboration in an international environment.
