What the job entails
As an Associate or Senior Associate, you will join the investment team and contribute to the full investment process, from identifying and assessing promising businesses through to supporting portfolio companies and monitoring investment outcomes. You will conduct market and company research, evaluate business models, engage with founders and management teams, and prepare clear, well-reasoned investment materials.
You will work closely with experienced investment professionals and gain exposure to companies across technology, deep tech, university spin-outs and other high-growth sectors. The role requires intellectual curiosity, strong judgement and the ability to develop conviction in complex and evolving markets. Senior Associates will take on greater responsibility in sourcing, transaction execution, portfolio support and mentoring colleagues. This is a permanent, on-site position based in Tokyo.
Key requirements
Native-level or fluent Japanese, with the ability to communicate confidently with founders, executives and investment stakeholders.
For Associate level: at least one year of experience in investment banking or strategy consulting.
For Senior Associate level: approximately six years of relevant experience in investment banking, strategy consulting, venture capital, private equity or a related field.
Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess markets, business models and growth potential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clear, structured investment recommendations.
Genuine enthusiasm for venture capital and a strong conviction that it is a long-term career path.
High energy, initiative and a highly motivated, driven approach to work.
The ability to build trusted relationships with entrepreneurs and collaborate effectively within a demanding investment team.
Financial modelling experience is not required.
A willingness to work on-site in Tokyo and contribute actively to a collaborative team culture.
