Overview
A global luxury fashion company is seeking an Anti-Counterfeit Lead to join its Brand Protection team within the Legal Department in Japan. This role plays a critical part in protecting brand integrity and enhancing value in a rapidly evolving business and regulatory environment.
The position focuses on leading and strengthening anti-counterfeit (ACF) initiatives, working closely with internal teams, global counterparts, and external stakeholders including authorities and industry bodies.
Position Summary
The Anti-Counterfeit Lead will co-lead anti-counterfeit initiatives in Japan, initially partnering closely with the current manager to gain a full understanding of operations. The role involves driving strategy execution, adapting to market and regulatory changes, and collaborating across multiple stakeholders to combat counterfeit activities.
Over time, the role will expand into broader intellectual property enforcement and brand protection initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Anti-Counterfeit Strategy & Execution
Lead initiatives to detect and remove counterfeit products from online platforms
Collaborate with global and regional teams to align anti-counterfeit strategies
Continuously improve ACF strategies based on market and regulatory changes
Enforcement & Authority Collaboration
Work closely with customs authorities on border enforcement and import suspension procedures
Support police investigations through product authentication and expertise
Coordinate with government bodies and industry associations
Training & Awareness
Deliver product authentication training programs
Participate in awareness campaigns and industry initiatives
Data Analysis & Reporting
Collect and analyze data on counterfeit trends and market activity
Provide regular reports and insights to internal stakeholders and global teams
Future Responsibilities (IP & Legal Support)
Support enforcement cases related to trademarks, design rights, and unfair competition
Review and advise on IP-related contracts
Conduct trademark clearance and support licensing strategies
Assist in anti-diversion initiatives (parallel imports and resale issues)
Qualifications
Required
Experience in the legal field (e.g., legal department, paralegal, or law-related education)
Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English
Basic knowledge of intellectual property and brand protection
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to adapt to fast-changing regulatory and business environments
Preferred
Experience in anti-counterfeit, intellectual property, or legal functions
Experience working with government authorities (e.g., police, customs)
Skills in data analysis and visualization
