Overview

A global fashion and lifestyle retail brand is seeking an Area Manager to oversee store operations and commercial performance across Japan. This leadership role will focus on driving sales growth, strengthening store leadership, and ensuring consistent customer experience standards across multiple locations.

The position partners closely with regional leadership in APAC and plays a key role in supporting the brand’s continued expansion and operational excellence in the Japan market.

Position Summary

The Area Manager will lead Store Managers across multiple retail locations while overseeing commercial strategy, people development, operational standards, and landlord relationships. The role requires strong experience in fashion retail operations, concession management, and team leadership within a customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Store Performance
  • Drive sales growth, profitability, and contribution targets across all assigned stores

  • Monitor store performance metrics and identify opportunities for operational and commercial improvement

  • Develop and implement action plans for underperforming locations while maintaining cost discipline

  • Ensure strong execution of business strategies and retail standards

People Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop Store Managers and retail leadership teams

  • Build strong succession pipelines and support long-term talent development

  • Foster an inclusive, people-focused culture that supports engagement and retention

  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and high-performance standards across teams

Customer Experience & Operations
  • Elevate customer experience through operational consistency and service excellence

  • Simplify and improve operational processes to enhance store efficiency

  • Ensure alignment with brand standards across customer service and store presentation

Visual Merchandising & Brand Execution
  • Support implementation of visual merchandising standards and brand presentation guidelines

  • Collaborate with retail and VM teams to ensure consistent customer-facing execution

  • Maintain strong brand positioning across all store environments

Landlord & Stakeholder Management
  • Manage relationships with landlords and concession partners

  • Coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support business performance

  • Partner with regional leadership teams on reporting, strategy, and operational initiatives

Qualifications
Required
  • Minimum 5 years of fashion or apparel retail experience with people management responsibilities

  • Experience managing concession stores and landlord relationships

  • Background in fashion, lifestyle, or apparel retail environments

  • Experience with visual merchandising and retail operations

  • Strong commercial and analytical capabilities

  • Above-average English communication skills for collaboration with regional stakeholders

  • Fluent Japanese communication ability

  • Experience managing multi-store retail operations

  • Exposure to international or matrix retail organizations
