What the Job Entails

As Country Manager, you will lead the organization’s activities in Japan, based onsite in Tokyo. You will be responsible for establishing and executing the local strategy, identifying business and investment opportunities, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders across the market.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You will represent the organization externally, build a strong local network, evaluate opportunities, and coordinate with international colleagues to ensure alignment with broader business objectives. You will also oversee local operations, manage priorities and resources, and provide clear recommendations to senior leadership.

Success in this role will require a sophisticated understanding of the Japanese market, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to operate effectively across cultures. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to build meaningful long-term impact in Japan.

Key Requirements

  • Significant senior-level experience in investment, business development, corporate strategy, financial services, or a closely related field.

  • Strong understanding of the Japanese business and investment landscape, including relevant market dynamics and stakeholder expectations.

  • Demonstrated success developing and executing market-entry, growth, or country-level strategies.

  • Established network of relationships with investors, business leaders, strategic partners, and other senior stakeholders in Japan.

  • Proven ability to evaluate opportunities, make commercially sound recommendations, and manage execution from concept through completion.

  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to represent an international organization with credibility, discretion, and strong cultural awareness.

  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset, combined with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Experience collaborating with international teams and senior decision-makers across different markets.

  • Professional fluency in English and Japanese.

  • Willingness to work onsite in Tokyo and take full ownership of the organization’s activities in Japan.
