Overview
A leading investment management firm is seeking an Investment Research Analyst to join its Japan-focused investment team based in Hong Kong. This is a junior-level investment research position offering exposure to public equities, corporate engagement, financial analysis, and governance improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will support investment research efforts, evaluate potential investment opportunities, and work closely with portfolio companies to identify initiatives that enhance profitability, operational performance, and corporate governance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct fundamental research on potential investment opportunities
Analyze publicly available information, including annual reports, financial statements, investor presentations, regulatory filings, websites, and earnings transcripts
Build and maintain financial models to support investment analysis and valuation
Perform qualitative and quantitative research across industries and companies
Prepare high-quality written communications and investment-related materials
Engage with company management teams to gather insights and evaluate business performance
Conduct interviews with customers, suppliers, competitors, and industry experts
Analyze corporate strategy, governance structures, and operational performance
Support the development of business improvement initiatives designed to enhance shareholder value and return on equity (ROE)
Monitor portfolio companies and provide ongoing analysis and recommendations
Present research findings and investment insights to internal stakeholders
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience in investment banking, equity research, investment analysis, corporate finance, or a related analytical role
Strong financial analysis and financial modeling capabilities
Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements
Excellent research and analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High level of professionalism, maturity, and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
Experience analyzing Japanese companies or industries
Knowledge of Japanese capital markets and corporate governance practices
Japanese language capability
Experience conducting industry, market, or competitive research
Exposure to public equity investing, shareholder engagement, or corporate strategy analysis
Language Requirements
Fluent English required
Japanese language skills highly desirable
