What the Job Entails

As Japan Merchandising Manager, you will be responsible for optimizing product availability and commercial performance across the Japan retail, digital, and outlet channels. Working closely with the Head of Asia Merchandising and the Japan business team, you will ensure the right stock is in the right place at the right time.

Key responsibilities include analyzing weekly sales performance, customer reactions, and market trends; strategically allocating inventory; managing stock movement and consolidation between channels; and identifying replenishment opportunities. You will support range reviews and the buying process by preparing historical analysis and commercial insights. You will also participate in weekly trade meetings, develop action plans, conduct regular store visits, and communicate local market opportunities to regional and global teams.

Key Requirements

  • More than two years of experience in the fashion industry, ideally in merchandising, planning, buying, or a related commercial function.

  • Strong understanding of business planning, sales analysis, inventory management, and commercial performance.

  • Experience analyzing sales data and translating insights into practical actions.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with quantitative information.

  • Business-level Japanese and business-level English, both written and spoken.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with retail, digital, outlet, merchandising, buying, and regional teams.

  • Confident, proactive approach with the creativity and judgment to solve problems independently.

  • Ability to manage operational priorities while maintaining a focus on profitability and customer needs.

  • Willingness to conduct regular store visits and engage directly with channel teams.
