What the job entails
As Senior UI Designer, you will shape the visual quality and usability of digital products and experiences from early concepts through final delivery. You will translate strategic and creative direction into intuitive, refined interfaces with strong typography, layout, color, motion, and visual detail.
Your responsibilities will include developing mood boards, prototypes, wireframes, and polished designs; contributing to scalable design systems; and collaborating closely with designers, strategists, technologists, and clients. You will present and explain design concepts clearly, helping teams align around effective solutions while balancing user needs with technical possibilities.
You will also support pitches and proposals, contribute cultural insight from Japan and global trends, and help raise the quality of the studio’s work. As a senior team member, you will have opportunities to lead, inspire, and mentor mid-level and junior designers while collaborating across a global network.
Key requirements
Native or fluent Japanese reading and speaking ability.
Proven experience as a Senior UI Designer in an agency or client-side environment.
An exceptional portfolio demonstrating sophisticated digital design and strong aesthetic judgment.
Outstanding typography and layout skills, with range, subtlety, and attention to detail.
Strong sensitivity to color, shadow, motion, interaction, and visual refinement.
Experience developing concepts through mood boards, prototypes, and presentations.
Experience taking projects from low-fidelity wireframes to polished digital products.
Proficiency in atomic design principles and scalable design systems.
Understanding of usability and accessibility best practices.
Awareness of technical possibilities and constraints in web and app development.
Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
Experience leading, inspiring, and mentoring mid-level and junior designers.
Ability to contribute effectively to pitches and proposals.
Proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools.
Intermediate or higher English proficiency and the ability to collaborate in a global, diverse team.
Degree in Design, Interaction Design, or a related field is preferred.
Based in Tokyo and available to work standard business hours in an onsite, permanent position.
