What the job entails

As a Rust Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain reliable software systems and data pipelines that support the company’s products. You will work closely with the founding team and CTO, taking meaningful ownership of technical decisions and contributing to the direction of the engineering platform.

Your responsibilities will include selecting appropriate algorithms and data structures, developing distributed systems, and working with event streaming, replicated data, networking, concurrency, and observability. You will contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, from early product development through production operations, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

This permanent, remote role is based in Japan and requires collaboration with domain experts in Japanese. It is well suited to an engineer who enjoys early-stage environments and wants to turn complex technical challenges into robust, impactful products.

Key requirements
  • Professional experience with Rust and proficiency in at least one programming language.

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms and data structures.

  • Practical understanding of networking and concurrency in real-world systems.

  • Experience maintaining non-trivial distributed systems and data pipelines.

  • Knowledge of event streaming and consensus mechanisms for replicated data.

  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and tracing across service boundaries.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to complex technical challenges.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Conversational-level Japanese for effective collaboration with domain experts.

  • Ability to work remotely from Japan with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.

  • Experience building products from 0 to 1 in an early-stage environment is advantageous.

  • Experience with agent-based systems, AWS, Infrastructure as Code, or multithreaded and asynchronous programming is a plus.
