Job Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting operations and statutory compliance for the Japan entity while collaborating closely with regional and global teams. The role requires strong cross-functional partnership, particularly with teams in China and the U.S., and a proactive approach to process improvement and global project participation. The accountant represents the organization professionally at all times and contributes to operational efficiency and data integrity across accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
Fixed Asset Accounting & Tax Support
Manage fixed asset accounting under JGAAP and support related tax filings
Prepare monthly journal entries for the secondary (JGAAP) ledger
Perform quarterly reconciliations between primary (US GAAP) and secondary (JGAAP) ledgers
Lead the annual physical fixed asset inventory process
Accounting Data Accuracy (Japan)
Ensure accuracy and completeness of Japan accounting data
Partner with Retail Operations to support timely lease and utility payments
Reconcile sales data discrepancies and reduce uninvoiced purchase orders
Ensure timely submission of expense reports and supporting documentation
Maintain and manage Japan GL codes, providing guidance to ensure proper accounting treatment
Regional Collaboration (AP / AR / GL Support)
Coordinate with regional AP, AR, and GL teams by processing vendor invoices and customer payment notifications
Promote invoice digitization to reduce paper-based processes
Prepare and distribute customer invoices
Maintain physical records in compliance with corporate policies, JGAAP, and local tax regulations
Statutory Closing & Compliance
Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with local requirements
Reconcile financial statements between US GAAP and JGAAP
Support SOX compliance and internal and external audit processes
Projects & Process Improvement
Conduct ad hoc financial analysis as needed
Participate in global system implementations and cross-regional projects
Drive continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline
Japanese Bookkeeping Certificate (Nissho Boki) Level 2 preferred
Professional Experience
3–5 years of relevant accounting experience
Experience in the apparel or retail industry is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese; Chinese language skills are a plus
Strong understanding of accounting principles under JGAAP and US GAAP, including fixed assets and Japan consumption tax
Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle
High attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management
Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity and professionalism
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
