General Accountant

Department: Finance
Reports to: Senior Accounting Manager – APAC
Location: Japan Office

Position Overview

We are seeking a General Accountant to support day‑to‑day accounting operations, AP processes, reconciliation activities, and month‑end closing tasks for the Japan office.
This role requires strong accuracy, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with regional and local teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare bank payments and book incoming/outgoing transactions; reconcile bank balances and interface data to SAP

  • Review and approve staff/shop reimbursement requests; prepare summary reports for HR

  • Download, collect, and process supplier invoices; support AP booking and payment execution

  • Handle month‑end closing activities, including AP booking, accruals, and prepayment entries to ensure accuracy of balance sheet accounts

  • Communicate with external partners such as banks, law firms, tax consultants, and insurance companies

  • Manage e‑Tax portal payments, real estate tax payments, and related journal entries

  • Communicate with internal departments regarding accounting inquiries; issue announcements as needed

  • Support preparation of board meeting minutes

  • Perform additional ad‑hoc duties assigned by the APAC Senior Accounting Manager

Internal Collaboration

  • Report directly to the Senior Accounting Manager

  • Work closely with an accounting team of two

  • Communicate with shop staff for AR‑related transactions

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field with a strong accounting foundation

  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience

  • Business‑level English proficiency (written and spoken)

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel; proficiency with MS Office suite

  • Experience with SAP or SAP migration is preferred

  • Strong sense of responsibility, teamwork, flexibility, and ability to learn quickly

  • Proactive and capable of working under pressure

  • Strong communication skills to liaise with APAC regional teams

  • CPA certification and experience in the retail industry are a plus
