Position: Business Development Manager – Medtech & Life Sciences

Overview

This position is part of a global consulting team that supports international organizations in expanding their business presence across Asia. As the Japan team grows, this role offers the chance to engage in market strategy, business development, and partnership building at the intersection of global and Japanese innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with clients in high-potential fields including biotechnology, medical devices, and life sciences.

  • Represent clients locally and lead commercialization efforts for the Japanese market, from strategy development to execution.

  • Manage the end-to-end process of sales and licensing activities: prospecting, outreach, negotiations, deal closure, and account management.

  • Identify potential customers and strategic partners, conduct market outreach, deliver pitches, and gather intelligence to inform strategy.

  • Provide clients with timely updates through documentation such as reports, call summaries, and meeting records.

  • Arrange and support client business trips to Japan, including local coordination, meeting facilitation, language support, and market guidance.

  • Gain hands-on experience in consulting, cross-border business development, and innovation-led growth.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English

  • Minimum three years of professional experience within pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, or life sciences in Japan

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, biotechnology, biomedical science, chemistry, immunology)

  • Strong motivation to develop a career in business development and sales

  • Ability to quickly learn and convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders
