Role Overview
This position is designed for an experienced data science professional specializing in Japan’s pharmaceutical and healthcare data landscape. You will support both domestic and multinational life sciences clients by delivering advanced analytics, commercial insights, and data-driven strategies.
The role requires strong client-facing capabilities, in-depth knowledge of Japan-specific pharmaceutical data sources, and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as a subject matter expert on Japan’s pharmaceutical and healthcare data ecosystem, supporting complex commercial analytics and sales reporting initiatives

Engage directly with life sciences clients to understand business challenges and convert them into actionable data science and analytics solutions

Analyze and interpret data from both global and domestic sources, including IQVIA, Veeva, Snowflake, JDNet, JMDC, Medical Data Vision (MDV), and Nihon Ultmarc, ensuring alignment with Japan-specific hierarchical data structures

Act as a bilingual liaison between Japanese clients and offshore technical delivery teams

Contribute to the development of analytics strategies, data pipelines, and machine learning models in areas such as:

Commercial performance optimization

Patient journey analytics

Real-World Evidence (RWE) research

Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal knowledge development within the data and analytics practice
Required Qualifications
Professional Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years of experience in data science and analytics (10+ years preferred)

Strong background in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry in Japan

Consulting experience is highly desirable

Demonstrated experience working with Japan-specific pharmaceutical data vendors and datasets
Technical Expertise

In-depth familiarity with Japan healthcare data sources such as JDNet, Ultmarc, IQVIA, Veeva, JMDC, and MDV

Proficiency in analytics and programming tools including Qlik, Python, R, and SQL
-
Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform is advantageous

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to resolve complex data challenges
Language Requirements

Japanese: Native-level fluency (native, JLPT N1, or equivalent)

English: Business-level proficiency preferred
