About the Role
A rapidly expanding PropTech company operating across the APAC region is seeking a Human Resources Director to oversee HR operations for its Japan business. With a strong focus on innovation and digital solutions for the rental property market, the organization is backed by significant Series A funding and is now actively scaling its presence in Japan.
Role Summary
The HR Director will be responsible for leading all human resources functions in Japan, reporting directly to the country CEO and working closely with regional leadership. This position will shape and execute HR strategies aligned with the company’s culture and growth objectives, ensuring legal compliance and promoting a high-performing, inclusive environment. The role will partner with cross-functional leaders to drive talent initiatives and build scalable HR infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement HR strategies to support business expansion and cultural alignment.
Lead all aspects of recruitment, onboarding, and talent acquisition for local hires.
Design and manage employee development, retention, and performance management programs.
Handle employee relations and foster a positive, engaging workplace culture.
Maintain compliance with local labor laws and ensure timely policy updates.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Collaborate with global HR teams to align local operations with company-wide standards.
Oversee compensation and benefits aligned with market benchmarks.
Support change management and organizational transformation initiatives.
Requirements
10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role, ideally within tech, SaaS, or real estate sectors.
Strong understanding of Japanese labor law and HR compliance requirements.
Demonstrated success in talent acquisition, employee engagement, and organizational development.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth, or startup environments.
Fluency in Japanese and business-level English (both spoken and written).
Must be based in Tokyo or open to relocation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in PropTech or related industries.
Knowledge of HRIS platforms and data-driven HR strategies.
Experience managing cross-cultural or international teams.
