Marketplace Specialist / Manager – Japan

Reports to: E-commerce Manager
Location: Tokyo (Shibuya area) – Hybrid work available (up to 2 days remote per week after probation)

About the Role

This position is responsible for leading the launch, growth, and management of the company’s presence on major Japanese online marketplaces such as ZOZOTOWN and Rakuten Fashion. The role focuses on driving sales performance, enhancing brand visibility, and ensuring operational excellence across both platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Marketplace Setup & Launch

  • Lead the end-to-end setup and onboarding for ZOZOTOWN and Rakuten Fashion, including product catalog, order flow, and inventory integration.

  • Coordinate with internal teams (Japan and HQ, IT, Logistics) and external partners (middleware vendors and marketplaces) to ensure smooth implementation.

  • Manage post-launch operations by identifying and resolving technical or data-related issues.

  • Ensure accurate product mapping and seamless catalog presentation.

Commercial Strategy & Performance

  • Develop and execute localized strategies aligned with brand guidelines and market trends.

  • Manage product assortment, pricing, and promotional activities in collaboration with global and local teams.

  • Analyze sales, traffic, and conversion metrics to optimize listings and campaigns.

  • Identify growth opportunities through assortment expansion, upselling, and cross-selling.

  • Prepare regular performance reports and strategic recommendations.

  • Stay informed on Japanese e-commerce trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities.

Content & Merchandising

  • Ensure product pages meet high-quality content standards with accurate descriptions, imagery, and storytelling.

  • Work with creative and PR teams to adapt global content for the Japanese market.

Operations & Coordination

  • Oversee daily marketplace operations, including order management, stock accuracy, and customer experience.

  • Collaborate with marketplace account managers to improve visibility, resolve issues, and apply best practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing online marketplaces in Japan, ideally within the fashion or lifestyle sector.

  • Hands-on experience with ZOZOTOWN and/or Rakuten Fashion.

  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen with proven sales results.

  • Deep understanding of Japanese consumer trends and e-commerce dynamics.

  • Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English.

  • Excellent coordination, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, analytics tools, and digital marketing principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience launching new marketplaces or managing localization projects with multiple stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with middleware-based integrations and collaboration with IT teams.

  • Understanding of back-end data flow and system architecture.
