Job Title: EH&S Contract Specialist
Employment Type: Contract Employee
Location: On-site, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Salary: ¥6,000,000 – ¥7,000,000 annually (estimate; final amount based on experience and interview)
Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (may vary at client sites); core hours apply; fixed overtime included (30 hours/month)
Holidays: Two days per week (Japanese calendar)

About the Role
The EH&S Contract Specialist is responsible for managing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) obligations within contractor, sub-contractor, and vendor agreements. The role ensures compliance with regulations, internal policies, and contract terms while supporting the organization’s safety and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement contract risk management programs for assigned areas, including pre-qualification, work authorizations, safety inductions, and training for contractors and vendors.

  • Review permits for high-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, and roof access.

  • Monitor contractor and vendor performance, enforcing the “Stop Work” policy when terms and safety requirements are not met.

  • Serve as the primary contact for contractors and vendors to address EHS-related contract issues or disputes.

  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices to maintain contract compliance.

  • Investigate and report incidents involving contractors or vendors, recommending corrective actions and following up on mitigation measures.

  • Collaborate with internal departments such as EHS, Legal, Procurement, and Operations to align contract strategies with organizational objectives.

  • Deliver contract risk management training to site employees.

  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and industry associations.

  • Maintain accurate records of all contractor and vendor site visits and related documentation.

  • Prepare timely reports on contract performance and compliance for internal stakeholders.

  • Perform other EHS-related duties as required to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in contract management, compliance, or procurement, preferably within the EHS domain.

  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and ISO standards related to occupational safety and environmental compliance.

  • Ability to deliver EHS training effectively, both in-person and remotely, to large groups.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and contract management software.

  • Willingness to travel to remote sites on short notice.
