Product Planning Director / Manager (Potential Department Head)

Overview

A growing company in the healthcare, wellness, or beauty sector is seeking a Product Planning Director or Manager to lead the development and execution of product strategies. This role will be responsible for designing product portfolios aligned with brand strategy, driving new product development, and improving existing offerings.

The position requires close collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and manufacturing vendors to bring innovative and high-quality products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage product strategies and product portfolios aligned with overall brand direction, including core products, limited editions, and product renewals.

  • Lead new product development initiatives including market research, concept creation, idea generation, and prototype direction.

  • Improve existing products through quality enhancement, cost optimization, and product reformulation where necessary.

  • Plan and oversee packaging design in collaboration with designers and external partners.

  • Coordinate with OEM/ODM manufacturers regarding product development, production schedules, and mass manufacturing preparation.

  • Manage prototype testing and oversee the transition from development to full-scale production.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and labeling requirements, working with external regulatory specialists when necessary.

  • Lead cross-functional projects and collaborate with marketing, supply chain, and external vendors to ensure successful product launches.

Requirements
Required

  • At least 3 years of experience in product planning or product development within the healthcare, skincare, cosmetics, or wellness industries.

  • Experience leading the product lifecycle from strategy and concept development through to commercialization.

  • Experience working with OEM/ODM manufacturers and managing product prototyping and mass production processes.

  • Basic understanding of relevant regulatory requirements and product safety standards.

  • Experience managing cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Understanding of D2C business models and customer journeys, including experience supporting product launches through social media and e-commerce channels.

  • Experience developing product portfolios and contributing to brand strategy.

  • Knowledge in areas such as food science, nutrition, or wellness-related fields.

  • Ability to communicate in English and/or Chinese.

Compensation

Estimated annual salary: 6,000,000 JPY – 10,000,000 JPY
(Salary will be determined based on experience and skills.)

主な業務内容

  • ブランド戦略に基づいた商品戦略および商品ポートフォリオの設計（定番商品・限定商品・リニューアル商品など）

  • 市場分析、コンセプト設計、アイデア創出などを含む新商品企画の推進

  • 既存商品の品質改善、原価最適化、商品改良の推進

  • パッケージデザインの企画およびディレクション（デザイナー・外部パートナーとの協業）

  • OEM／ODMメーカーとの連携による試作開発および量産立ち上げの管理

  • 製造スケジュール調整および生産管理

  • 食品表示法などの関連法規への対応（必要に応じて外部専門家と連携）

  • 部門横断のプロジェクトマネジメントおよび商品ローンチ推進

必須

  • ヘルスケア、スキンケア、コスメ、ウェルネス関連業界における商品企画または商品開発経験（3年以上）

  • 商品戦略立案から製品化までのプロセスをリードした経験

  • OEM／ODMメーカーと連携した試作・量産管理の経験

  • 商品に関する基本的な法規や安全基準への理解

  • 部門横断でのプロジェクト推進経験
