Position: Accountant

Location: Tokyo, Japan
Reporting Line: Reports to the Country Manager (with dotted-line support to Deputy CFO)

Role Summary

An experienced Accountant is sought to support the financial operations of an international food manufacturing and distribution company. The role involves handling daily accounting tasks, supporting financial planning, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and producing financial reports to help drive business decisions. The successful candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, transaction posting, income and expense tracking

  • Perform routine bookkeeping duties such as bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable management, and financial data integrity checks

  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reviews and ensure proper ledger management

  • Support financial reporting with accurate preparation of statements, summaries, and reports

  • Monitor weekly cash flow and alert senior leadership on any significant fluctuations, ensuring adequate liquidity is maintained

  • Prepare and issue customer invoices; oversee timely local banking payments

  • Ensure compliance with local accounting and tax regulations; manage local tax payments and documentation

  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audited financial statements

  • Deliver weekly financial reports to the local Country Manager

  • Assist with cost control efforts and support broader financial planning initiatives

  • Stay informed on changes to financial regulations, tax law, and industry best practices

  • Provide ad hoc reports and financial analyses as requested by senior management

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting or finance

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage tasks independently and take full accountability for assigned responsibilities

  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal skills

  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining work quality

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
