Why This Role Is Important
The Data Engineer will play a critical role in building and operating the data foundation that supports AI-powered products and global business operations.
This position focuses on designing scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms that enable teams across engineering, product, analytics, and business functions to access and use data independently. The role sits at the intersection of data engineering, AI enablement, and platform architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate company-wide data infrastructure used across multiple teams and regions
Develop secure and scalable data systems optimized for performance, cost efficiency, and availability
Build and maintain both batch and real-time data pipelines
Collaborate with analysts, analytics engineers, and product teams to define data requirements and usage patterns
Enable environments for data analysis, machine learning, and experimentation
Design systems that handle sensitive and regulated data in compliance with Japanese legal and security requirements
Apply AI- and agent-based approaches to enable self-service, AI-native data platforms
Continuously improve system reliability, monitoring, and operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
Experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Data Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer
Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or similar languages
Hands-on experience building data infrastructure on a major cloud platform (Google Cloud preferred)
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
Experience with real-time data processing or messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, Fluentd)
Business-level Japanese proficiency (equivalent to JLPT N1)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing or operating machine learning pipelines
Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, or data lineage frameworks
Experience with ETL/ELT orchestration tools and job schedulers
Data modeling experience for data warehouses or data marts
Familiarity with security best practices, including access control and encryption
