Position Summary

The R&D Leader will oversee product development for lithium-ion battery applications in Japan, aligning with the company’s global strategy. This role includes managing the local R&D center and team, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Innovation

  • Lead the Japanese R&D team focused on lithium-ion battery applications

  • Understand customer technical needs and deliver tailored graphite and carbon solutions

  • Define and manage innovation and new product development pipelines

  • Apply project management tools to ensure timely and efficient delivery of results

  • Identify emerging technologies and applications through collaboration with academic and research institutions

  • Contribute to strategic projects and product development roadmaps, including IP generation

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with global R&D teams and departments such as sales, business development, operations, and quality

  • Act as the primary technical contact for global lithium-ion battery customers

  • Support technical sales activities and customer engagements

Team & Lab Management

  • Supervise a team of five researchers

  • Maintain and improve laboratory safety standards

  • Foster a collaborative, open, and high-performing team culture

  • Coach and develop team members to support their growth

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field

  • At least 5 years of experience in R&D, technology, or application development (preferably in lithium-ion batteries or electrochemistry)

  • Prior experience managing technical teams, ideally in a multinational environment

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of battery materials and project management

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and agile approach

  • Customer-focused with the ability to lead diverse technical teams

  • Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills across internal and external stakeholders
