Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement the customs strategy across Japan

  • Establish and lead the national customs team

  • Work closely with the sales team to create independent customs business opportunities

  • Foster and enhance partnerships with external collaborators

  • Manage AEO certification and ensure adherence to regulatory standards

  • Plan and oversee the customs budget

  • Ensure all customs activities comply with Japanese Customs regulations

  • Serve as the Export Compliance Officer for security trade control

  • Liaise with regional and global offices to align operations

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of customs management experience (including multi-site management) at a major freight forwarder

  • Deep knowledge of the Japanese market

  •  Licensed Customs Specialist (通関士) with 8+ years of practical experience

  • AEO-certified company experience preferred

Language Requirements:

  • Japanese: Native level (JLPT N1 or equivalent – must be able to interpret legal documents)

  • English: Business level (TOEIC 800+; required for meetings with global teams and internal executives)
