A globally recognized luxury fashion company is seeking an experienced E-Commerce Director to lead and expand its digital business in Japan.
This position will oversee the local online business strategy while working closely with global headquarters to align with worldwide digital initiatives. The role focuses on growing online revenue, expanding the digital customer base, and delivering a premium online experience consistent with the brand’s positioning.
The position also plays an important role in strengthening the company’s omnichannel ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration between online platforms and physical retail stores.
Role Overview
The E-Commerce Director will be responsible for developing and executing the Japan market’s e-commerce strategy while adapting global digital frameworks to local customer needs.
This leader will manage relationships with local digital marketplaces and partners, optimize the online customer journey, and oversee all e-commerce operations including merchandising, marketing, logistics, and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
E-Commerce Strategy & Business Development
Develop and implement the overall e-commerce strategy for the Japan market in alignment with global digital initiatives.
Manage the digital business performance, including responsibility for revenue growth and profitability.
Create annual online sales plans and lead strategic initiatives to expand digital revenue.
Identify new business opportunities through market analysis, customer insights, and competitor benchmarking.
Build strong relationships with external partners and third-party platforms to support business expansion.
Marketplace & Digital Channel Management
Manage relationships with major online marketplaces and oversee commercial performance.
Plan product assortments, inventory allocation, and promotional campaigns in collaboration with marketplace partners.
Monitor key performance metrics such as website traffic, conversion rate, average order value, and customer lifetime value.
Ensure online merchandising and content maintain a premium brand image and storytelling.
Omnichannel Strategy
Lead initiatives connecting digital and physical retail channels, including services such as store pickup, in-store reservation, and ship-from-store.
Work closely with retail and CRM teams to provide a consistent luxury-level customer experience across all touchpoints.
E-Commerce Operations
Oversee all online operations including website management, order fulfillment, logistics, returns, and customer service.
Ensure the online shopping journey is seamless and aligned with brand standards.
Digital Marketing & Customer Experience
Develop digital marketing strategies including SEO, SEM, paid media, and CRM programs to increase traffic and customer engagement.
Monitor digital performance and deliver regular insights and reports to senior leadership and global teams.
Use data-driven insights to continuously improve the online customer experience and digital platform performance.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and develop the local e-commerce team to support business growth.
Establish performance goals and KPIs for team members.
Build an agile and high-performing team capable of adapting to the fast-changing digital environment.
Candidate Profile
Experience
10+ years of experience in e-commerce, digital business, or omnichannel leadership roles.
Experience within luxury, fashion, or premium consumer brands is highly preferred.
Demonstrated success in driving online revenue growth and managing digital business performance.
Experience working in international organizations with close collaboration with global headquarters.
Familiarity with managing major online marketplaces in Japan.
